APPAREL DESIGN

In a world where image is everything, it is important to stand out. But it isn’t as simple as being the boldest or the loudest. Now more than ever, clever design is imperative when it comes to getting noticed. This is especially true when it comes to fashion. With the rise of entrepreneurialism during the past decade – many have taken to launching their own clothing labels with the hopes of becoming the next big success in the fashion industry. Start-up costs can be considerable and with so much at stake, it is important to get things right, the first time. Designing for fashion is not the same as designing for publications or branding – Although some aspects of the process do cross over because a fashion brand needs those things too. Managing that crossover while keeping things uniform (forgive the pun) is a challenge.

One of the aspects of design that remains across the board when it comes to fashion design is attention to detail. Small details count when it comes to clothing and even the colour of the stitching against the fabric can make a marked difference to the final product. While we don’t really get involved with the actual garment design – while we are designing your brand identity we can advise you on colour matching and help with mock-ups of your final garment designs. If you are looking for help with the tailoring or cut choices of your garments then we can put you in touch with one of our affiliates who are better versed in that area. We often work closely with such outfits as sometimes it is important to know where printing or embroidery for example is or isn’t appropriate and where the placement of the aforementioned isn’t feasible.

You would be surprised how even the smallest of details can catch the eye if designed and placed well. As mentioned earlier, stitching can offer a whole different feel when it comes to the look of a garment depending on its colour or weight, rather like a block of text on a web page or a piece of stationary. Colours and subtle differences in the weight and direction of lines can alter the moods and feelings of people who see your designs so it is important to take into account such things. Before you choose your final design, experiment with colours – we can provide you with mock-ups of your designs with various colour combinations so that you can get that all important feedback from your potential audience before you go to print or have your clothing made up.

Give your clothing label a greater feel of authenticity and quality by including a swing tag as well as a custom inner collar label. Inherently, people don’t like to throw away an attractive and weighty swing-tag. it’s a psychological thing. If designed well and printed on something substantial your brand will likely remain on a dressing table or in a top drawer for a considerable length of time. The longer the face of your brand remains in somebody’s possession the more likely you are to receive repeat sales. So, while often considered to be disposable items – swing tags, inner folding and wrapping papers, plastic shipping bags and even those always forgotten about spare buttons, should always be given extra special thought during the design process.
